The Sweet Venom of the Scorpion: The Diary of a Call Girl

Just two months ago, Raquel Pacheco was making a living as a high-end call girl, turning tricks with up to five men a day in an apartment in a swank neighborhood of Sao Paulo, Latin America's financial hub.

Back then she went by her nom de guerre, Bruna Surfistinha, or Bruna the Surfer Girl. She has since left the business and become a best-selling author who spends her days rushing to interviews, promoting her book on the radio and appearing on late-night TV talk shows.

Her book, "The Sweet Venom of the Scorpion: The Diary of a Call Girl," is a vivid account of the three years that the 21-year-old Pacheco spent selling her body for money. Written in the slang of a middle-class teen-ager from Sao Paulo, it is part diary, part blog and even offers how-to tips for readers looking to spice up their sex lives.

In just over a month, it has sold some 30,000 copies and is already in its third edition -- a huge success in a country where only a fraction of the population reads books. It also ranks third on Brazil's bestseller list for nonfiction books, neck and neck with international hits like "Freakonomics" by Steven D. Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner.

Though Brazil is the world's largest Roman Catholic country, sex is far from a taboo subject. Brazilians of all social classes frequently flaunt their sexuality, donning skimpy clothing even in formal settings. X-rated magazines hang in plain sight at newsstands. The government distributes free condoms as part of its AIDS prevention program. And prostitution is legal, although pimping is not.

Still, the book's success was a surprise to Pacheco, who turned to prostitution after running away from home when she was 17 and now lives with her boyfriend, a former customer.

"I thought people would be curious, not necessarily about my life, but about the life of a call girl," she said. "But I didn't think the reaction would be like this. I never thought I would be famous."

FROM BLOG TO BOOK

In truth, Pacheco was already flirting with fame before her book. Lonely and eager to vent, she started writing about her experiences with customers in a blog that became so popular it was profiled in several Brazilian magazines. These days the site (http://www.brunasurfistinha.com/blogs/) rarely focuses on sexual escapades, but it still gets about 20,000 hits a day.

It was the blog that drew publishers to Pacheco, who had boasted on the site that she was writing a book. She rejected three offers to put her story in print before finally signing with a small publishing house called Panda Books, which hired a journalist to help her organize her ideas into a book.

"Once I started reading the blog, I was hooked," said Marcelo Duarte, the book's publisher. "It had all the ingredients of a good soap opera -- family drama, love stories and lots of sex."

Duarte thought it would be popular with men, but he did not imagine that the story of a prostitute would be such a big hit with women, who have been buying the book in droves.

Still, Rosely Sayao, a psychologist who studies sexual behavior, said the book's popularity among women makes sense.

"The idea of a call girl, of a prostitute, is something that many women fantasize about," she said. "Women want to be a lover to their partner, and in many people's minds, a prostitute is someone who knows how to be the perfect lover."

The book has also raised eyebrows overseas. Duarte is in talks to publish it in Portugal and Spain, and is entertaining offers to sell the rights to turn it into a movie.

That possibility prompted one Brazilian web site to ask its readers in a survey who should play Pacheco on the big screen. The top pick was soap opera star Mel Lisboa, who became famous playing a teen-age vixen who seduced an older man.

With money in the bank and a bestseller on her resume, Pacheco says she plans to finish high school and go to college to study psychology. She also wants to find a job but worries she will have a hard time getting hired because of her past.

"I don't know if I'm going to be accepted," she said. "Even though I'm not a prostitute anymore, in some people's eyes I still am."

Save Narmada

The Hindu Headline of 16th April

Narmada Dam Talks Deadlock....

Narmada was once a free-flowing river...Yes, free and flowing defines the true feature of the river...however one of the greatest rivers of India-NARMADA is dying due to technological negligence...Narmada emerges from "AMARKANTAK" a place in Madhya Pradesh...

In 1980s it was decided taht a number of large, small and very small dams will be built on the river NARMADA for generating Hydro-electricity...however this has proved to be a bolt from the blue to the humanity who are residing near the banks of narmada.....

Suddenly the NARMADA is dying...itz no more a free and flowing river but it has been converted into a man-made lake by building dams...the flora and fauna which used to strive in the river once is dying...The building of Dams has submerged many habitation near the banks...many people has lost homes, lost lands and lost livlihood because of making these dams on NARMADA...

Many NGOs have been really trying to stop building of Dams on the river...the greatest movement to save Narmada is now called as -"NARMADA BACHAO"....the movements have been goin in vain coz the height of the dams on the river Narmada is being increased day by day....

A time will come when tis great flowing river will die due to Technological and Human Negligence....Itz high time that we save NARMADA now or else delete the river from our Geographical Map forever....

Disaster Management

A Satellite Photo of TSUNAMI

Tsunami, Earthquakes, Cyclone-What does these remind you of?....destruction, loss of life and property...Wht does your Govt do when your country is hit with the above?.....

It happened wth India when Tsunami struck The Andaman and Nicobar Islands as well as the coastal region of India....Govt of India was caught red-handed and it came out to the citizens of India that India was not well equipped for the Disaster Mangement, however India took good lessons frm it to emerge as a winner....

So what this Disaster Mangement all about....well to paraphrase it its about managing Disaster...how you utilise the resources to the maxim so that with the resources you can help the people rehabilate....

A govt shld have a disaster management fund where it should put some money from the Forex reserve so that it can be utilised in a proper way...The other way can be also to include the NGO's of the country to the disaster management system as the NGO's are well equipped to knw the needs of the local people for whom they work....The resources like food, petrol, communication systems can be brought from the surplus parts of the country to the disaster hit areas...

A robust communication system should be established in the Disaster Prone areas so that if all the communication systems fail this can be used properly at the time of a big Disaster....Alarm systems should be made robust in these areas so that if by chance a Disaster hits the people of that part of the country can be alerted......A kind of make-shift area should also be marked near the Disaster Prione areas so that people can be taken to the areas in case of emergencies....

I don't know whether these can be implemented officially but it was just a suggestion for the people of the country to know if they want to know...

Descendant of Stone Age skeleton found

LONDON (Reuter) British scientists Saturday celebrated their feat of tracing a living descendant of a 9,000-year-old skeleton and establishing the world's oldest known family tree. In an astonishing piece of detective work, they matched mitochondrial DNA material extracted from the tooth cavity of Britain's oldest complete skeleton with that of a 42-year-old history teacher, Adrian Targett. The genetic material showed without doubt that Targett is a direct descendant through his mother's line of the skeleton known as Cheddar Man, which was found in 1903 in caves in Cheddar Gorge in southwest England. "It is extraordinary that the DNA survives at all, but we were able to extract it and sequence it," said Bryan Sykes of Oxford University's Institute of Molecular Medicine. "They would have shared a common ancestor about 10,000 years ago, so they are related." Targett lives about a kilometer from the caves where Cheddar Man was found. Previous tests have shown that Cheddar Man suffered a violent death at the age of about 23 in 7150 B.C. The Oxford University team spent months analyzing samples from the skeleton before taking DNA swabs from about 20 local people whose families had lived in the Cheddar area for generations. Targett, who teaches modern history, said he took part only to make up the numbers. "I was astonished when the scientists said I was the descendant. Appropriately enough, I am a history teacher, but I have to admit I know next to nothing about Cheddar Man. I suppose I really should try to include him in my family tree," he said. Targett can now boast a lineage millennia older than that of Britain's royal family, which traces its heritage back to A.D. 829. The oldest previously recorded relative was the great-great-great-great-grandfather of Confucius, who lived in China in the eighth century B.C. Scientists said the odds of finding a match were not as enormous as might appear, because of the relatively small number of people who lived in Britain during the Stone Age. Sykes said the discovery strengthened the theory that the ancestors of modern-day Britons were hunter-gatherers rather than farmers. "There has been an idea that most modern European are descended from farmers that came in from the Middle East about 10,000 years ago, reaching Britain about 6,000 years ago," Sykes told British Broadcasting Corp. radio. "This kind of evidence shows that is probably not true, and that modern Britons are in fact descended from the earlier inhabitants like Cheddar Man who existed on hunting and gathering and who were not farmers." Scientists said they were hoping to use the same technique of sampling mitochondrial DNA to prove whether Neanderthals, who died out about 25,000 years ago, were linked to modern humans or were a completely different species. Professor Chris Stringer, a researcher at the Natural History Museum, said, "This work may finally let us end a 150-year-old argument which has existed since a Neanderthal man fossil was first found." Targett, an only child who has no children, was still coming to terms with the idea of having a Stone Age man as a relative. But his wife, Catherine, said, "Maybe this explains why he likes his steaks rare."

LOVE THY ALL

Have you ever been in LOVE....

I would say the loveliest word in the Dictionary is:::LOVE......whnever you hear this word somethin clings in your ears right?...itz like a sweet poison which kills people in the world in a positive way...Yes, Right you get killed by it...I will say it how?

You fall in Love...you never rise in Love..the biggest irony lies in this sentence itself...when you describe love in such a sweet way how can we say that you fall in LOVE...but we all FALL in LOVE.....This kills....You die to meet the person you love...you die to share your feelings with the person and ultimately when you share all the feelings you feel like you are in HEAVEN ...right?...This is virtual Dying in LOVE and it KILLS you.....VIRTUALLY....

Never leave a person whom you LOVE coz you will die literally as the LIFE(whom you love) and the HEARTBEAT will stop ultimately......go into deeper meanings.....

This same thing happened wth me a few days back whn the person i LOVED the most left me...however i felt that my LIFE and my HEARTBEAT has started again today as i talked to her today after a two weeks long time...THIS IS LOVE.....You can't forget the person whom you love coz he/she is a part of you...How can you Forget yourself?....is it possible....

Never FALL in love always Rise in LOVE....

CRIMINALS-By the People,For the People and of.....

DEMOCRACY-By the people, For the People and Of the people......but has democracy lost itz true ethos in the current world....may be the voting system still emphasises on the same ,however if the poeple to be elected are such that they are good for nothing, how can we think of a good and robust democracy......

If we see the current list of the ministers in the LOk SABHA of India we will find atleast 30% of the politicians had previous crminal records.....not only criminal records they are academically and knowledge challenged people, who don't the ABC of politics....forget about managing their own constituency.....

The recent increase of quota system in the PG courses shows very clearly that the only thing the ministers know is that how to increase their VOTE BANK without thinking of the long term impact on the country.....In the current corporate scenario where the economy of India is booming the step is a backward step to regress the economy of India and to progress the vote bank....

Its high time that the ELECTION COMMISSION of India take this issues of Criminals in the PARLIAMENT or the time wouldn't be far enough when instead of Politicians we will have criminals in the parliament....

GO DEEP INSIDE

Pick not Flower

Raise not dust from the ground; it will enter into your eyes. Sprinkle some water on it that it may settle down and lie under your feet. A wrongdoer who is sorry for his wrongdoings profits more than the one who has never done wrong. To delve into a matter which matters little, is like raising dust from the ground. It does not need courage to be bold and blunt, sharp and rude; one has only to be shameless.

Pick not flowers, for it will detain you in your progress on the path, and as you go, they will only fade away. Look at them, therefore, and admire their beauty, and as you proceed on your journey, they will greet you with smiles all along the way.

If we pluck a flower and remove it from the tree, it will shrivel up and lose its fragrance. The flower can give its fragrance only as long as it is on the tree. Similarly, if we leave our correct state, that flower within the innermost heart will fade. We must remain connected to the tree which is the heart. If we leave the heart behind, then the flower in our heart will perish. This is what will happen if we go in search of praise and honors and positions for the sake of our pride. Then we will be like the flower that was plucked from the tree; all the good that we have will dry up within us.

FIRE and FIRE

When Fire meets Fire, the resulting higher and hotter flames may create a conflagration, which will either consume itself, and burn out - or light the darkness, and melt the ice and fear of negative thinking. The choice lies equally with both individuals.

AIR and AIR
When Air meets Air, there is a complete freedom of movement, little or no restriction. Thisblend can result in glorious mental, emotional and spiritual uplifting. But Air becomes pollutedwithout the winds of change, and Air can be whipped into frenzy of tornado under certain conditionsThe choice lies equally with both individuals.

EARTH and EARTH
When Earth meets Earth, this blend can build itself into a tall mountain of faith and strength- orcan instead become a dry desert, depending on which direction it takes. When agitated, the resultcan be earthquake, with volcanic repercussions. The choice lies equally with both individuals.

WATER and WATER
When Water meets Water, there is no resistance, resulting in a continual stream of inspiration, flowing eventually into greater ocean of enlightenment- or on the negative side, it may trickle intostagnant inlet, where there is no escape.Water cools the thirst but, when out of control, bringsdestructive floods. The choice lies equaly with both individuals.

FIRE and AIR
Air fans Fire, and causes it to burn more brightly, stimulating enthusiasm and excitement- orinciting passion and anger.Too much Fire can burn up the oxygen in Air, making it difficult to breathe- and too much Air, such as a strong wind, can cause a flame to flicker even more dimly. The choice lies equally with both individuals.

FIRE and EARTH
It is obvious which is stronger and more enduring of the two elements.Eaath remains where it isunless moved by inner explotion, or through outside forces. Fire charts its own course, ever reachingtowards the heavens. Fire can scorch Earth but never completely destroy it.Earth will supportFire, forming a stable foundation for its flames; yet too much Earth can bury the brightest Fire. The choicelies equally with both individuals.

FIRE and WATER
A large Fire can dehydrate or dry out small amount of Water, with excessive heat.On the other hand, large quantities of Water can extinguish Fire, put out its flames. Therefore, Fire instinctively eitherfears or respects Water, and vice versa. Both subconsciously sense the danger- that each is capableof completely destoying the other. The choice lies equally with both individuals.

EARTH and AIR
Earth contains Air and needs it, but Air neither contains Earth nor needs it.Earth is obligated to remainwhere it is, moving only through earthquake, volcanic or outside forces.Air has freed itself from suchrestrictions, moving above the Earth at whim, neither changing Earth nor long remaining. Earth isdetached from Air, seemingly unaware of its existence, until strong winds disturb the plants and flowers growing on its surface, rooted in its bosom. The outcome is determined by choice, which liesequally with both individuals.

EARTH and WATER
Water seeks a home, which it finds within the Earth, it penetrates Earth and moistening it, which isa blessing to the Earth- for it is Water's penetration alone that allows Earth to "mother" all forms of livingplants, trees and flowers. Without the Earth to moisten, Water's course is aimless and equally useless. But too much Water can turn Earth into mud or quicksand- and too little Water can be lost, can disappearwithin the mountainous masses of Earth. The outcome is determined by choice which lies equally with both individuals.

AIR and WATER
Air penetrates Water.......stirs it, churns it into lashing waves......then moves away.........an infiltrationor attack over which Water has no control. When Water penetrates Air in the form of moisture, it causes Air to be heavy. But, in the process, it also brings to all of Nature the blessed relief of rain, magically changing Air into its own element, a transmutaion over which Air has no control. In the final analysis, there is no choice of outcome for either individual- only through Destiny's HigherWill.

STOP RESERVATIONS!!!!!

Whatz the shit is this!!!!

Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh may claim that it's just a proposal, but UPA Government's attempts to increase reservations from the present 22.5 per cent to 49.5 per cent in prestigious educational institute's like Indian Institute's of Technology, Indian Institutes of Management and other institutes of higher education, is brewing up a storm. This is injustice to not only the deserving candidates but also an unhealthy partiality in genuine competition will result in long term impact of unbalanced and biased society at large. This is threat to INDIAN concept of balanced and equal opportunity to all. Instead of taking mileage out of cheap politics to kill real talent they could make education subsidized for needy one be it any cast of society.

Don't you think that it will stop the BRAINY PEOPLE(like me!!!) from going to the premier institutions of INdia....The constitution of INDIA says that Equal Oppurtunity for All the cItizens....but it proves to be the bolt to the CONSTITUTION OF INDIA.....Now seeing the CORRUTION levels in India, every child's parents will try to make an OBC or ST or SC certificate for his children.....and giving bribe to the officials its possible in INDIA....and indirectly add to the corrution levels among the officials....

In the long term effect, the meritous students may commit suicide as well, which will deplete the talent pool of India....STOP UPA or this policy may kick you back

Play With Words

Verbose----Do you knw wht does it mean?.....well exactly the meaning is that you have to play with your your words......

In this world of corporates you will be able to hear and see it everywhere-from HR managers to your DEADLY boss....They promise a lot but give hardly anything to you.....You make a fool out of your client or the people you deal with in your day to day life...i call it HYPOCRITES....when you can't do a thing for someone why do u make him believe that.....

The biggest CON MAN i would say in any corporates are the HR managers...they promise you with lotz of things and make you believe that the company you are working for is a HEAVEN, however it turns out to be a real HELL when you survive in that Company.....

A GOLDEN RULE----When people at your corporations saysomething that has "IF' or "BUT" or "HOWEVER" you can be rest assured what ever you are said will not be implemented or not be done.....

Catch It if You Can

Two Fundoo Quotes i found on the net:"First I was dying to finish high school and start college; then was dying to finish college and start working; then I was dying to marry and have children; then I was dying for my children to get old enough for school so I could return to work; and then I was dying to retire. Now I am dying and suddenly, I realize I forgot to live."

"Once the game is over, the King and the Pawn go back to the same box"
